Purpose


Bodyfocus Wellness Centre is committed to promoting and protecting the safety, wellbeing, dignity, rights, and interests of all participants.


This policy outlines the organisation's commitment to safeguarding individuals from violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation, discrimination, and other forms of harm.



Scope


This policy applies to all employees, contractors, students, volunteers, and other personnel engaged by Bodyfocus Wellness Centre.


The policy applies to all interactions with participants and other persons receiving services from the organisation.



Policy Statement


Bodyfocus Wellness Centre is committed to:

  • Promoting a culture of safety, dignity, and respect.

  • Supporting the rights, autonomy, and wellbeing of participants.

  • Protecting participants from violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation, discrimination, and victimisation.

  • Responding promptly and appropriately to safeguarding concerns.

  • Encouraging the reporting of concerns without fear of adverse consequences.

  • Complying with applicable legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements.



Participant Rights


Bodyfocus Wellness Centre recognises the right of participants to:

  • Be treated with dignity and respect.

  • Receive services in a safe environment.

  • Be free from violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation, and discrimination.

  • Make informed decisions about their care and services.

  • Raise concerns and complaints.

  • Have their privacy and confidentiality respected.

  • Be supported to exercise choice and control where appropriate.



Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation


Bodyfocus Wellness Centre maintains zero tolerance for:

  • Physical abuse

  • Psychological or emotional abuse

  • Verbal abuse

  • Sexual abuse

  • Financial abuse

  • Neglect

  • Coercion

  • Exploitation

  • Intimidation

  • Harassment

  • Victimisation


Any actual or suspected safeguarding concern must be reported promptly.



Discrimination


Participants will be treated fairly, respectfully, and without unlawful discrimination.

The organisation is committed to providing services that are inclusive and responsive to individual needs and circumstances.



Professional Boundaries


Personnel are expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times.


Personnel must not:

  • Exploit relationships with participants.

  • Use their position for personal gain.

  • Engage in inappropriate, coercive, or exploitative behaviour.

  • Enter into relationships that may impair professional judgement or place participants at risk.


Professional boundaries are further addressed within the Code of Conduct.



Risk Identification and Prevention


Management and personnel will take reasonable steps to identify and manage risks that may affect participant safety and wellbeing.


This may include:

  • Risk assessment

  • Incident review

  • Staff training

  • Supervision

  • Workplace monitoring

  • Continuous improvement activities



Reporting Concerns


Any person who becomes aware of actual, suspected, or potential violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation, discrimination, or other safeguarding concerns must report the matter as soon as practicable.


Reports may be made to management through established organisational reporting processes.


Where immediate danger exists, emergency services should be contacted without delay.



Response to Safeguarding Concerns


Upon receiving a safeguarding concern, Bodyfocus Wellness Centre will:

  • Take the matter seriously.

  • Prioritise the safety and wellbeing of affected individuals.

  • Assess immediate risks.

  • Undertake appropriate enquiries or investigation.

  • Implement protective measures where required.

  • Meet applicable reporting and notification obligations.

  • Maintain appropriate records.


The response will be proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the concern.



Complaints and Advocacy


Participants may raise concerns or complaints regarding services, treatment, or safeguarding matters without fear of disadvantage.


Participants may seek support from:

  • Family members

  • Carers

  • Advocates

  • Representatives

  • Other support persons


Information regarding complaint pathways is available to participants and other stakeholders.



Training and Awareness


Personnel will receive training, information, or guidance appropriate to their role regarding:

  • Safeguarding responsibilities

  • Professional boundaries

  • Recognising indicators of harm

  • Reporting obligations

  • Participant rights and dignity



Confidentiality


Information relating to safeguarding concerns will be managed confidentially and in accordance with organisational privacy and information management requirements.


Information will only be disclosed where necessary to protect individuals, investigate concerns, comply with legal obligations, or as otherwise authorised.



Responsibilities


Management


Management is responsible for:

  • Promoting a safeguarding culture;

  • Responding to safeguarding concerns;

  • Supporting reporting processes;

  • Maintaining appropriate records;

  • Providing training and guidance;

  • Monitoring safeguarding risks.


Employees and Other Personnel


Personnel are responsible for:

  • Supporting participant safety and wellbeing;

  • Respecting participant rights and dignity;

  • Maintaining professional boundaries;

  • Reporting safeguarding concerns;

  • Participating in required training.
