Purpose
The AI-Assisted Clinical Transcription Consent Form records a patient's informed consent to the use of AI-assisted clinical transcription during consultations. The form supports transparent communication, protects patient privacy and ensures AI-assisted documentation is only used with the patient's informed consent.
Management is responsible for maintaining the AI-Assisted Clinical Transcription Consent Form. Completed forms are stored within PracSuite as part of the patient's clinical record and are reviewed periodically as part of privacy, information management and clinical governance activities. Treating practitioners are responsible for obtaining informed consent before using AI-assisted clinical transcription and ensuring the completed form is recorded in the patient's clinical record.
When is this form used?
This form should be completed before AI-assisted clinical transcription is used for the first time with a patient.
The form explains:
What AI-assisted clinical transcription is
How consultation information is processed
How patient privacy is protected
That participation is voluntary
That consent may be withdrawn at any time
Patients should be given the opportunity to ask questions before deciding whether to provide consent.
Completing the Form
The treating practitioner should ensure the patient has sufficient information to make an informed decision before requesting consent.
Once completed:
The consent should be recorded within the patient's clinical record.
The patient's consent status should be updated within PracSuite.
Verbal confirmation of consent should continue to be obtained at the commencement of each consultation where AI-assisted clinical transcription is used.
Where consent is not provided, or consent is later withdrawn, AI-assisted clinical transcription must not be used.
